The membranous disc of the outer segment is separated from plasma membrane and are inlaid with rhodopsin. The end of the inner stalk is enlarged and spherical and is called a rod spherule. Cones locate in the outer part of the outer nuclear layer. he nucleus is relatively large and is lightly stained. The inner segment like the rods is the site of protein synthesis. The membranous discs of the outer segments are connected to the plasma membrane, and are inlaid with iodopsin. The terminal inner stalk swells into a foot shape, called cone pedicle.
