This time 24 years ago, I was running around a local radio newsroom trying to piece together from our sources just what had happened. We had an old CRT telly in the corner and when BBC1 suddenly switched to its news channel there was a hush as we watched the reports and then witnessed the second plane. This was no accident. The next few hours were a blur of emotions as it dawned on the world that something like this could happen in modern America, workers jumping from buildings to avoid an agonising death. The thousands of families directly affected, millions indirectly and the conflicts that have raged ever since. I will never forget 9/11/2001. Someone on the team knew the song by Don Henley 'New York Minute' which I'd never heard before and we closed our very, very, very extended news bulletin with that song. Always sends a shiver.
